Jasu Moisio, oboe

Jasu Moisio got interested in early music and the oboe while singing J.S. Bach’s works with the Helsinki Boys’ Choir in the 1980s. After studying the modern and the historical oboes in his hometown he moved to Central Europe in 1996 to study with Ku Ebbinge at the Koninklijk Conservatorium of The Hague and later with Marcel Ponseele at the Paris Conservatoire. He also spent a month in Montréal with the baroque oboe pioneer Bruce Haynes.

Paris-based Moisio is the principal oboist of​ Ensemble Pygmalion (Raphaël Pichon) since 2008, and time allowing performs with groups such as Orchestre des Champs-Elysées (Herreweghe), Les Musiciens du Louvre (Minkowski), Capriccio Stravagante (Sempé), Vox Luminis, Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, The English Concert, Concerto Köln, Netherlands Bach Society, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, to name a few. He is also a founding member of the Tokyo-based Orchestra Libera Classica (Hidemi Suzuki), formed in 2001. Moisio teaches the historical oboes at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and Hogeschool voor Kunsten in Utrecht.
