Simone Walters relocated to Hobart in 2012 from Perth where she was Principal Contrabassoon with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.

In 2015 Simone received a Churchill Fellowship for the study of Baroque Bassoon Performance Practices across Europe and the following year commenced doctoral research studies into the editing and performance of recently rediscovered eighteenth-century works for bassoon. This year Simone was awarded a two-month residency at theStaatsbibliothek zu Berlin–Preußischer Kulturbesitz and is currently in the final stages of her research.

Simone’s freelance work includes engagements with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Australian Romantic and Classical Orchestra, the Australian Haydn Ensemble, Anima Eterna Brugge, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, many of Australia’s professional Symphony Orchestras and Opera Australia.
