Kailen Cresp
Introducing Kailen Cresp, our very first Van Diemen’s Apprentice. Kailen was awarded a scholarship to our French Baroque Workshops early this year and will be performing as part of the orchestra in our Christmas concerts at the end of the year. Welcome Kailen!
Kailen began his musical life in 2007 starting Oboe in his local high school band, after successfully auditioning for the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School he continued through his year twelve and was given a scholarship to attend the University of Melbourne. He took interest in the baroque oboe during his final year of high school. While recently completed his Masters of Music Performance on modern and period Oboe, he has remained very active in the early music community and is always up for the challenge of learning a new instrument to add to his arsenal.
“Having the opportunity to work with world-class early music practitioners is a vital part of the development of emerging early music specialists such as myself. The significance of the opportunities provided by Van Diemen’s Band for young Australian musicians to gain experience of this calibre, on Australia soil, cannot be overstated.” Kailen Cresp, baroque oboist
