"Heroines" receives Art Music Awards nomination
We're delighted to learn that 2023's Heroines regional tour has been nominated for an APRA AMCOS Arts Music Award in the Excellence in a Regional Area category.
Presented as part of 2023's Ten Days on the Island festival, Heroines showcased an all-female composer lineup performed by an international ensemble of female-identifying artists, including UK-based mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean. The program comprised two new Australian works commissioned for the program, by Biddy Connor and Alice Chance.
Performed in nipaluna/Hobart, Launceston, Latrobe and munatrik/Stanley, and broadcast on Australian Digital Concert Hall, Heroines incorporated 3 film works, two of which were commissioned for the program from female film-makers Hanna Chetwin (AUS) and Jessie Rogers (UK). It also saw the Australian premiere of works by previously forgotten female composers of the 17th century, such as Antonia Bembo, Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre and Francesca Caccini.
Congratulations to the intrepid team involved in this project, which was many years in the making.
