Australian born, Italian-based cello virtuoso Catherine Jones joins Van Diemen’s Band to present a ravishing program of Neapolitan baroque music. Naples was home to some of Europe’s most daring and exotic musical minds,including featured composers Nicolo Fiorenza and Francesco Durante. Their music contributed to one of the most inventive and distinctive styles in 18th century musical history.
Catherine brings her talent, finesse and impeccable dexterity to the front and centre of this fiery, passionate repertoire.

Tin Shed Baroque with guest artist David Greco
A stunning program of baroque masterpieces with Van Diemen’s and David Greco, whose rich baritone beautifully decorates the rustic surrounds of the shed at Spring Bay Mill. This intimate musical sojourn features some of the bbest-loved tunes of Bach, Vivaldi and Handel, along with some surprising musical revelations. Beautiful views, stirring music, and a drink from the bar while the sunsets on an early autumn evening.

Van Diemen’s Band is an exciting new Tasmanian chamber orchestra dedicated to the historically informed performance of music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Made up of some of the nation’s most highly respected early music specialists, whether based in Australia or overseas, VDB combines musicological research and high-level performance by musicians who, between them, have many decades of baroque music-making experience.
Van Diemen’s Band is joined by Australia’s favourite virtuoso recorder player for a sumptuous program of Italian concertos. Featuring Vivaldi’s stunning C major recorder concerto and the famous Corelli Christmas concerto alongside stunning lesser known concertos by Sammartini, Dall’Abaco and Fiorenza. Come and discover the rich world of Italian baroque instrumental music in a unique and intimate setting of the Falls Pavillion.
