Our immensely popular lunchtime concert series returns to the Hobart Town Hall for five fabulous concerts!
Curated by VDB’s Artistic Director, Julia Fredersdorff, our 2025 series showcases some of lutruwita/Tasmania's finest musical talent and interstate guests, in an eclectic program of music spanning a rich variety of genres and styles.
Experience virtuosic percussion, thundering piano, Australia's only prog-Baroque quartet and toe-tapping Balkan folk, and brilliant Baroque duets.
Escape the hustle and bustle and step into an oasis of calm listening to beautiful music in the glorious surrounds of the Hobart Town Hall Ballroom.
CONCERT #1: TUESDAY 15 APRIL - ENSEMBLE OFFSPRING (NSW)
Standing at the forefront of musical innovation, Ensemble Offspring's Claire Edwardes (percussion) and Zubin Kanga (piano) perform a virtuosic program of new music.
CONCERT #2: TUESDAY 22 APRIL - STEFAN CASSOMENOS (VIC)
Hailed as ‘a pianist of great passion and power’, Stefan Cassomenos performs a kaleidoscopic program of spectacular piano masterpieces, culminating in Liszt’s monumental transcription of Beethoven’s epic Symphony No. 5.
CONCERT #3: TUESDAY 29 APRIL - CROISSANTS & WHISKEY (TAS/VIC)
Prog-baroque quartet Croissants and Whiskey brings a new energy to old instruments, with an unconventional blend of harpsichord, G violone, baroque viola, and recorders.
CONCERT #4: TUESDAY 6 MAY - XENOS (TAS)
Ready your heart and your feet for the evocative and exciting urban-folk of Eastern Europe.
CONCERT #5: TUESDAY 13 MAY - KARINA SCHMITZ & SIMON MARTYN-ELLIS (TAS/NSW)
Two of the shyer Baroque instruments - the Baroque viola and the theorbo - step out from their usual place in the middle of the Band to let the deliciously dusky sounds of their instruments take the spotlight. This sumptuous program of duos and solos features VDB's 2025 Mentors-in-Residence Karina Schmitz (viola) and Simon Martyn-Ellis (theorbo).
FIVE-CONCERT SEASON PASS NOW ON SALE FOR $50 (available until 15 April 2025) - includes priority entry queue.

About our Lunchboxes
Our Lunchbox Concerts are bite-sized concerts that run for around 50 minutes without an interval. There are no printed programs and seating is general admission. Performers will often (but not always) talk during the program to introduce the pieces, their instruments or their colleagues. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, and if you've not been to a "classical" music concert before this is an excellent place to start!
