Bite-sized concerts to brighten up your lunch break.

We invite you to enjoy a tempting menu of diverse short-form concerts held in your lunch break, featuring some of Tassie’s finest musical talent alongside interstate and international guests.

Curated by VDB’s Artistic Director, Julia Fredersdorff, the Lunchbox Concerts go "beyond the Band" to showcase a rich variety of artists, genres and styles. Escape the hustle and bustle and step into an oasis of beautiful music in a casual and welcoming setting.

CONCERT #1 - MINI VDB
Wed 5 August, 1.05pm

Van Diemen’s Band performs Baroque gems for small ensemble, with some of the rarer instruments from the Baroque era taking centre stage - including the viola da gamba, the always-popular theorbo and … the musette! Featuring Laura Vaughan (gamba), Simon Martyn-Ellis (theorbo) and Simon Rickard (musette).

CONCERT #2 - CLAIRE EDWARDES
Wed 12 August, 1.05pm

"Sorceress of percussion" Claire Edwardes is the only person to win the APRA Art Music Luminary Award four times. A charismatic percussion virtuosi, this solo recital sees Claire performing works from her latest album, Dual Attractor, ranging from Missy Mazzoli to Paul Mac.

CONCERT #3 - MEYERS & YAP
Wed 19 August, 1.05pm

Acclaimed violinists and fiddlers Katie Yap and Rachel Meyers bring their new duo project to the Lunchbox Concerts. Together they blend the rich traditions of Baroque, folk and klezmer music with spirited traditional tunes and intricate original compositions, all delivered with warmth, humour and undeniable chemistry.

CONCERT #4 - LAURA VAUGHAN & LIAM BYRNE
Wed 26 August, 1.05pm

Blending historical instruments with contemporary textures, this atmospheric performance draws threads across centuries. Berlin-based viola da gambist Liam Byrne is renowned for his interpretations of both early music and cutting-edge contemporary music. He joins Australian gambist Laura Vaughan for a recital pairing Renaissance and Baroque works alongside the new music of today, including specially commissioned works by Australian composers Alice Chance and Brooke Green.

CONCERT #5 - THOMAS DUNFORD
Wed 2 September, 1.05pm

Dubbed “the Eric Clapton of the lute” (BBC Music Magazine), dynamic young French virtuoso Thomas Dunford is the leading lutenist of his generation. His stellar international career has seen him perform with many acclaimed ensembles, including Les Arts Florissants, The English Consort, La Serenissima and Les Siècles.
