Our immensely popular lunchtime concert series returns to the Hobart Town Hall!

Curated by VDB’s Artistic Director, Julia Fredersdorff, our 2026 Winter Series will showcase some of Lutruwita/Tasmania's finest musical talent alongside international and interstate guests, in an eclectic program of music spanning a rich variety of genres and styles.

Escape the hustle and bustle and step into an oasis of calm listening to beautiful music in the glorious surrounds of the Hobart Town Hall Ballroom.

CONCERT #1 - MINI VDB
Tue 4 August, 1.05pm

Van Diemen’s Band performs Baroque gems for small ensemble, with some of the rarer instruments from the Baroque era taking centre stage - including the viola da gamba, the always-popular theorbo and … the musette! Featuring Laura Vaughan (gamba), Simon Martyn-Ellis (theorbo) and Simon Rickard (musette).

CONCERT #2 - CLAIRE EDWARDES
Tue 11 August, 1.05pm

"Sorceress of percussion" Claire Edwardes is the only person to win the APRA Art Music Luminary Award four times. A charismatic percussion virtuosi, this solo recital sees Claire performing works from her latest album, Dual Attractor, ranging from Missy Mazzoli to Paul Mac.

CONCERT #3 - INDRA HUGHES
Tue 18 August, 1.05pm

The magnificent Hobart Town Hall pipe organ takes centre stage in this thrilling recital by New Zealand-born organist Indra Hughes, now based in Nipaluna/Hobart.

CONCERT #4 - LAURA VAUGHAN & LIAM BYRNE
Tue 25 August, 1.05pm

Blending historical instruments with contemporary textures, this atmospheric performance draws threads across centuries. Berlin-based viola da gambist Liam Byrne is renowned for his interpretations of both early music and cutting-edge contemporary music. He joins Australian gambist Laura Vaughan for a recital pairing Renaissance and Baroque works alongside the new music of today, including specially commissioned works by Australian composers Alice Chance and Brooke Green.

CONCERT #5 - THOMAS DUNFORD
Tue 1 September, 1.05pm

Dubbed “the Eric Clapton of the lute” (BBC Music Magazine), dynamic young French virtuoso Thomas Dunford is the leading lutenist of his generation. His stellar international career has seen him perform with many acclaimed ensembles, including Les Arts Florissants, The English Consort, La Serenissima and Les Siècles.
