ARTISTS
YURIKAMOME CHILDREN’S CHOIR
Yaizu’s acclaimed Yurikamome Children’s Choir was established in 1989 and includes children from Grades 3 to 9. It boasts an alumni of over 400 members.
Children who love music and singing are gathered from elementary and junior high schools in and around Yaizu. There is a wide age range, and the younger members practice hard by modelling the singing voices of the older members. Yurikamome Choir is proud of their bright and smooth singing voice. The older members take good care of the younger members during practice and in daily life and take a leading role in their school’s music programs.
The Choir practises every Saturday for three hours to perfect their performances. They perform around Yaizu City and their biggest performance is always its annual concert which the students have a lot of input into.
The Choir has performed in Hobart five times before, and this will be the sixth visit to Hobart. Performing in Hobart is one of the biggest achievements of choir members.
MOUNT CARMEL COLLEGE CHOIRS
The Mount Carmel College Senior Singers (Years 9-10) and Middle Years Voices (Years 7-8) are made up of enthusiastic students who get together to rehearse once a week at lunchtime. They perform at school concerts and festivals, as well as at public events such as the Festival of Voices.
The combined Mount Carmel College choirs were honoured to perform with the Yurikamome choir on their last visit. They are excited to do so again this year.
VAN DIEMEN'S BAND
Founded in 2016 by violinist Julia Fredersdorff, Van Diemen’s Band (VDB) delivers extraordinary performances across lutruwita/Tasmania as well as online.
Varying in size from an intimate chamber group to a larger orchestra, VDB explores the creativity and expressiveness of the Baroque while also performing new works on original instruments.
Always seeking to break new ground, VDB has collaborated with artists such as French Baroque specialist Martin Gester, Persian/Afghani musicians Ensemble Kaboul and Tasmanian mandolinist Luke Plumb.
VDB has performed for Ten Days on the Island, Dark Mofo and Mona Foma, toured nationally for Musica Viva Australia and internationally for Chamber Music New Zealand, and recorded for ABC Classic and the prestigious Swedish label BIS.
VDB is also an active concert presenter in lutruwita/ Tasmania, presenting Lunchbox Concerts in nipaluna/Hobart, Launceston and pataway/Burnie, and delivers a range of education and community programs each year.
